THE UNSUNG HEROES

Crafting Angélique taught us that true beauty requires us to look beyond what is familiar. We experimented with carrot seed essential oil, which is often a sidekick in perfumery, but has a rich potential. Get ready to enjoy the unique scent of carrot seed essential oil adorned by musk, lilac, iris, and sandalwood. Let Angélique wrap you and enjoy its peaceful melodies.

Hero Ingredient

Carrot Seed Essential Oil (Daucus carota sativa)

Carrot seed essential oil is obtained from the Western Group of domesticated carrots, which are known for their bright orange roots and delicate white flower clusters. Originally found wild throughout Europe and Asia, these carrots were first domesticated in Afghanistan. The wild carrot, also known as Queen Anne’s Lace, crossbreeds naturally with its cultivated counterpart. Historically, seeds from both wild and early domesticated carrots were used for their medicinal properties in the Mediterranean region, long before the carrot became popular as a root vegetable. The perfumery industry harvests these seeds in the plant’s second year, between June and November. Once harvested, the seeds are dried, crushed, and distilled to produce the essential oil. The essential oil is fruity, liquor-ish, earthy, slightly woody, reminiscent of iris root.

In perfumery, carrot seed essential oil often plays a supporting role, especially when paired with the prestigious iris root, to amplify its effect. This technique is showcased in fragrances like "Lost Alice" by Masque Milano (2021) and "Eyes Closed" by Byredo (2022). It's also a popular choice to blend with sandalwood for a unique scent, as seen in Tom Ford's "Santal Blush" (2011), Le Labo's "Santal 33" (2011), and Amouage's "Meander" (2020), or with musks to create captivating aromas in Diptyque's "Fleur de Peau" (2018) and Frederic Malle's "Heaven Can Wait" (2023).

Carrot Seed EO is the foundation of Angélique's creation.

It creates the powdery texture of the florals such as lilac and iris and adds character to the musk blend, while also smoothing out the woods: Indian sandalwood essential oil and Virginia cedarwood essential oil.

Hero ingredient

Ambrettolide

Oxacycloheptadec-10-en-2-one
C16H28O2 - CAS: 28645-51-4

Ambrettolide is a high-quality macrocyclic musk that is widely recognized for its incredible ability to replicate the musky scent that is often associated with natural musks. This musk material is highly regarded for its excellent diffusion and strength, particularly when used in combination with other musk compounds. While similar molecules to Ambrettolide occur naturally in angelica sap and ambrette seed, the majority of Ambrettolide used in perfumery has a slightly different chemical structure and, therefore, a different scent. Although natural Ambrettolide can be extracted, it is very expensive.

Ambrettolide is an exceptional fixative that enhances the scent and longevity of fragrances, even at minimal concentrations. It can impact the top notes too, giving out a subtle fruity-violet-like scent. For that reason, Ambrettolide is an excellent musk ingredient for crafting floral, amber, and animalic fragrances.

However, did you know that 10% of people have anosmia and cannot perceive the scent of synthetic musks?

Ambrettolide gives depth and tenacity to Angélique.

It balances the powdery texture of carrot seed EO, introducing gentle fruity undertones and evoking the sensation of being wrapped in a warm, soft fur blanket, for a long time.
