Our Inspiration
Literally meaning “lost bread”, Pain Perdu is the French version of what many know as French toast – a humble yet indulgent dish born from tradition. Originally made to rescue stale bread, it transforms the ordinary into something comforting and golden: slices soaked in a rich custard of milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla, then gently pan-fried in butter until crisped on the outside, soft and creamy within. In France, Pain Perdu is often savored for breakfast or brunch, served warm with powdered sugar, fresh fruits, or a drizzle of honey. It can also be enjoyed as a dessert, served in many restaurants, cafés, and brasseries. Our Pain Perdu captured the soft warmth of golden brioche and the toasted milk, as well as the sweetness of honey. It’s a scent that wakes you in comfort, like sunlight filtering through the window on a slow morning.

Pain perdu is a French dessert that I personally enjoy for its aroma, taste, and texture. In France, Pain Perdu—literally meaning ‘lost bread’—is a cherished ritual of transformation, a way to rescue the humble and turn it into the indulgent. It is made from stale bread dipped in milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla, then toasted. It is a dish defined by texture: stale bread reborn through a soak of vanilla-laced custard, pan-fried until the edges are caramelized and the center is soft. Whether topped with a simple drizzle of honey or my personal favorite—burnt caramel and melting vanilla ice cream—it represents a beautiful process of renewal: taking the forgotten and giving it a second, more golden life.
I’ve tried many iterations of Pain Perdu, but this scent is a translation of a specific core memory: a slow brunch with my mother at a small café tucked beside the Sacré-Cœur. We had fought the day before, and as we sat there in the morning light, the tension began to dissolve. I wanted to capture the exact feeling of that moment—the sense of a relationship being restored.
To evoke that Parisian sunlight filtering through the window, I opened the composition with the luminous brightness of Neroli Essential Oil, which flows into a heart of Drizzled Honey. The fragrance is anchored by a bespoke Toasted Milk accord, mimicking the buttery warmth of fresh brioche.
