Our Inspiration

Fika Flame is inspired by one of Sweden’s most beloved rituals: fika. Fika is a cherished cultural tradition where people pause, reconnect, and enjoy something sweet, often with friends, colleagues, or family. The word “fika” originates from a playful inversion of the old Swedish slang term for “coffee” (kaffi), and it embodies a spirit of warmth, ease, and togetherness. One of the most iconic pastries enjoyed during fika is the kanelbulle, or Swedish cinnamon bun. Unlike the American version, Swedish cinnamon buns are less sugary and made with cardamom-spiced dough, which gives them a uniquely aromatic, warm character. You’ll find them in every café across the country; it’s soft, golden, and often twisted into beautiful knots. Vanilla also plays a beloved role in Swedish baking. Pastries like vaniljbulle are filled with rich vanilla custard, offering a creamy contrast to cinnamon’s warmth.
